Courtyard Xeriscape Renovation in Fort Collins
A complete xeriscape and hardscape redesign focused on low maintenance, architectural balance, and modern outdoor living.
The Original Courtyard
The original courtyard featured mature plantings and dense vegetation that had gradually overtaken the space.

The original courtyard featured mature plantings and dense vegetation that had gradually overtaken the space.
While the landscape had natural beauty, it lacked structure, created ongoing maintenance challenges, and visually hid the architecture of the home itself.
The homeowners were looking for a cleaner, more modern outdoor environment that would feel cohesive, functional, and easier to maintain long-term.
Existing planting beds had become overgrown and visually crowded around the main gathering areas.
Design and Preparation
We developed a courtyard design centered around geometric forms, decorative aggregate, low-water plantings, natural boulders, and clean transitions between materials.
Design development focused on balancing hardscape structure with soft desert-inspired planting textures.
Bringing the Vision to Life
Decorative hardscape surfaces, custom aggregate zones, and clean planting edges were installed to establish structure and contrast. The project combined xeriscape materials, accent stone, and drought-tolerant planting selections to create a courtyard that feels modern, open, and highly functional.
Custom hardscape installation introducing structure, texture, and movement throughout the courtyard.
The Finished Product
The completed courtyard now feels open, architectural, and intentionally connected to the home itself. Clean geometric lines, decorative aggregate, natural stone accents, and drought-tolerant planting work together to create a landscape that is both visually striking and easy to maintain. The updated space provides year-round curb appeal while dramatically reducing maintenance demands and water usage compared to the original landscape.
Eight years after installation, this yucca rewarded patience with a stunning bloom. This is a testament to thoughtful design, healthy establishment, and landscapes built to thrive for the long term.
