Mature shade trees create beautiful backyards, but they can also make it difficult to maintain healthy turf over time.
This Fort Collins property had great bones (a fire pit gathering area, mature landscaping, a pergola, and a play structure!) but the lawn had become thin, worn, and difficult to enjoy. The existing stepping stone pathway remained a strong design feature and became an important element to preserve throughout the restoration process.
The homeowners wanted to restore the space without changing the character of the yard. Our goal was to improve the lawn, refresh the landscape, and create a backyard that felt healthy, inviting, and ready for everyday use.
PREPARING FOR NEW GROWTH
Successful lawn installation starts long before the sod arrives.
Soil was prepared, and grading adjustments were made to create an ideal foundation for healthy root establishment.
Throughout the process, special attention was given to protecting existing landscape features including the mature trees, pathway system, fire pit area, and play structure.
INSTALLING THE NEW LAWN
Once site preparation was complete, fresh sod was installed throughout the backyard. Careful installation around the stepping stone pathway and existing landscape features ensured a seamless finished appearance. Proper preparation and installation are critical to helping new sod establish quickly and develop into a durable, healthy lawn.
PATHWAY RESTORATION
One of the most distinctive features of the property was the natural stone stepping-stone pathway connecting different areas of the yard. During the renovation, the pathway was preserved and integrated into the new lawn installation, allowing the landscape to retain its character while receiving a complete refresh. The result is a pathway that feels more intentional and visually connected to the surrounding landscape.
The Finished Product
The finished backyard feels completely refreshed while maintaining the character that made the property special.
